An Editor who can write

When I first started writing seriously, I never gave editors a thought. They were Gods of the literary world only 'made it' authors could afford and in any case, 'who needs them?' To certain extent, financially, that still holds true but my attitude has changed dramatically towards why they are needed. Good editors are worth every penny they charge but for those of us self publishing nowadays the solution is one that will take us a few years to resolve. We don't have money for an editor but we can buy text books and we can look at our own work with a different pair of eyes and thought process. Whatever way we look at editing it is a craft, just as important as the author's book when it is published. So I was pleasantly surprised when my editor, Suraya Dewing, announced she was writing a book. That was two years ago. Looking through the book, one can see how well she edited her work.....At least, readers who know she is an editor would be forgiven for thinking that. Like all writers, she had to have someone edit her book. The book, Bend with the Wind,  is a wonderful read. Fiction has been blended with fact over the Springbok tour of New Zealand in the eighties that caused near riots over apartheid. There are conflicts of interest and a love story. Suraya has shown she is at the top of her profession both as an editor and a writer. She continues to mentor rookie writers and run The Story Mint that has spawned some good talent. I recommend her book and encourage those who want to write creatively to go and have a look at The Story Mint site.www.thestorymint.com

Her book can be purchased at Amazon.  http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=bend+with+the+wind
